Clean water relies on dedicated engineers. Meet the problem-solvers at AUC Group innovating for a sustainable water future.

For National Engineers Week, let’s celebrate the engineers behind clean water

Every drop of clean water we drink, every stream we protect, and every community we serve relies on the ingenuity and dedication of engineers. As we celebrate U.S. National Engineers Week, February 16-22, we want to recognize the brilliant minds working tirelessly to ensure clean and sustainable water solutions. To give you a deeper look into the people behind these innovations, we’re introducing a few of our engineers — highlighting their expertise, inspirations, and even a few fun insights.

Edwin Villatoro, EIT

Edwin Villatoro, EIT

Edwin Villatoro is a problem-solver at heart who gets excited about being part of a team that helps solve real-world problems. “Our ability to promptly find practical solutions to everyday problems never ceases to amaze me,” he said. He noted, however, that an engineer’s job doesn’t just involve finding innovative solutions to emerging problems. “When developing solutions, engineers need to balance real-world practicality while constantly adapting to new challenges,” Villatoro explained. Communication, he emphasized, is also a crucial part of the job, and is sometimes even more important than technical skills. “A project’s success often depends on teamwork, understanding different perspectives, and ensuring everyone is on the same page, regardless of how complex the project may be,” Villatoro stated.

Tyler Marks

Tyler Marks

Tyler Marks is passionate about engineering and encourages others to consider exploring a career in this field. “I wish more people knew what engineers actually do on a daily basis. Spreading awareness could help to make more people familiar with the industry and the impact engineers have on society, and get more people interested in pursuing careers as engineers,” Marks said. Engineering is a highly interconnected job that involves a lot of collaboration with other departments. I never expected to learn so much about how engineers interact with other departments like project management and business development, but it’s been an amazing experience!”

Alok Shah, P.E.

Alok Shah, P.E.

Alok Shah is in awe of what engineering has achieved and has yet to accomplish. “Engineers are fundamentally problem solvers,” Shah said. “While many assume we spend our days performing complicated mathematical calculations or solving differential equations, the reality is that most of us are likely working on a real-world problem and figuring out the most optimal way to solve it. “In a sense, engineers are just logical thinkers,” a trait that he believes can also prepare engineers well to take on various roles within an organization.

What everyday problem would Shah like to solve using his engineering skills? Providing universal access to clean water. “With so many advances in our society, it’s surprising there are still so many people across the globe who lack access to basic resources like clean water. In an ideal world, everyone should have easy access to clean water and other basic life necessities,” Shah said. “Solving this issue requires collaboration between government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, and communities, and I hope to be part of the effort to make clean water accessible to all.”

Honoring the Engineers Who Keep Our Water Clean

Our engineers are more than just technical experts — they are problem-solvers, communicators, and visionaries committed to making the world a better place. Whether ensuring access to clean water, improving infrastructure, or innovating new solutions, their work touches every aspect of our daily lives. This National Engineers Week, we celebrate their dedication and the impact they have on communities worldwide.

To all engineers out there, thank you for your hard work and commitment to a cleaner, safer future.
